Collaborations

Collaboration between the LIFE VIMINE project and Istituzione Bosco e Grandi Parchi (Woods and Large Parks Institution) of the City of Venice for the development of a local supply chain of wooden material

In the LIFE VIMINE project, the branches and poles required for the construction and placement of the fascines protecting the salt marshes of the lagoon, are provided by routine vegetation pruning activities carried out on trees present in public small forests and parks, along water channels in the mainland of Venice and in the wooded areas of the lagoon islands near the project zone.
In this way, LIFE VIMINE creates a local supply chain of wooden material that ensures economic and environmental sustainability and contributes to provide a long term prospective to the project.

The creation of a local supply chain of wooden material in LIFE VIMINE is made possible by the collaboration with several public and private subjects working on the territory, including Istituzione Bosco e Grandi Parchi of the City of Venice that makes possible the collection of wooden material in the mainland areas that it manages. During January and February 2015 about 220 poles were obtained from branches collected from the public park "Alfredo Albanese" (Bissuola) in Mestre and 400 poles were obtained from branches collected from the small forests of Osellino and Zaher (Mestre).
